Los Angeles Filmforum Screening of The Wyvernwood Chronicles - Part 2, August 19, 2023
Part 2 screenings of Wyvernwood Chronicles features documentaries made by Wyvernwood resident, Gumaro Oviendo Flores, alongside more documentaries and experimental films from Diego Robles. The program also screened videos made by Wyvernwood residents, as well as an experimental animation from Bertha Aguilar, and documentaries by Abraham Osuna and Manuel Huerta. Hosted again by Los Angeles Filmforum Programmer, Jorge Ravelo, this Q&A further discusses the built environment of the Wyvernwood neighborhood and community-cultural events its residents have long celebrated on a yearly basis. Diego’s main documentary in this screening sheds the spotlight on Gumaro Oviendo Flores – one of the residents of Wyvernwood that is also a videographer and an active member of resident groups hosting many cultural-religious events within the neighborhood, as well as organizing efforts to resist their community’s demolition. Throughout this Q&A, all speakers participate in a thoughtful conversation about humanizing people of all ages, creating images that go against media stereotypes and racial tropes, and a wider discussion on more technical aspects about the making of these various works.
